spam tracking - how it works
Sunday, March 17th, 2003

It suddenly occurred to me - a simple method for finding those companies who sell or give out e-mail address. Since I run a mailserver, I can make as many e-mail address as I want. Starting today, I will be creating a unique e-mail address for each website and/or company that I deal with electronically. Those e-mail addresses will never be given to anyone else (or even posted here, since they could be harvested). Any mail that comes to those address that is not from the original company will signal that the company is giving/selling the addresses - and possibly violating their own privacy policies.

When those companies are identified, they will be posted here, for the benefit of everybody. Hopefully, this will pressure these companies to treat our information with more respect. It's not likely, but it never hurts to try.
